Axion by Dexia • Banner Concerts
Axion, Dexia’s youth bank wanted to show their 12-25 year-old clients how much they support them. What do these teens and young adults strive for? Nothing other than Rock Star Fame of course. And with the majority of young bands competing for popularity on MySpace, the true stars were left struggling to stand out over all the noise.
Axion decided it was time to give the bands a push and really show their support, so they created the first ever Banner Concerts. Streaming live gigs through the internet, through the space of traditional banners, Axion gave 25 bands exposure and a chance to win a real-world gig at one of Belgium’s biggest concert halls. Viewers could vote for the band they favored most and send them on their way to Ancienne Belgique.
If the stats aren’t proof enough of why this social based campaign rocks,
• Generated 43.479 impressions via viral embeddings on fan pages and blogs.
• The campaign website attracted 44.845 unique visitors.
• 7.581 people voted for their favourite band (a majority voted by premium SMS instead of free web-vote).
then you have no soul and you are the devil. Just kidding. In all seriousness, whoever thought to film real bands, in live-space, and broadcast it over the internet in teeny tiny banner real estate, is an innovative genius in my book.

The Longest Story • Concept for Penguin Books
While the overall concept of brands using collaborative storytelling is no longer new or buzz worthy on Twitter, the most important principle of this campaign remains dominant—involving the audience. People love being part of something bigger than themselves and if we could do that and get young people excited about reading again, I’d call that a good day.
If you can spare 3 minutes of your life check out the video of the full campaign.
[And in case you really pay attention to awards, yes this was entered into Future Lions 2010. And yes I know it’s exactly the same as one that won in the top 5. We made the shortlist of Top 20. Now leave me alone so I can go cry and work on being a better Art Director so we can win next time.]
